Observation details
In the group photo, the immature male with the gray back is the 3rd male from the right. The far left male is in transition and also is shown in the enlargement. I originally labeled it as an unknown "waterfowl sp." However I relabeled it as an immature male after comments from eBird. One eBird reviewer wrote the following, "Cornell's "Birds of the World" indicates the bill can be "dark" in first-year birds, and the shortness you mentioned is likely due to the camera angle. Male birds are grayish when young and when in nonbreeding plumage, so combinations of grayish backs and darker heads would seem to indicate a molting bird."
