Observation details
Much studied and debated as the possible first US record of White-bellied Emerald. Medium sized hummer. White underparts with faint green flecking on flanks. Emerald green upper parts with the crown irridescing azure. Mandible red tipped in black. Upper mandible black. Some green spangling on sides of throat. White post-ocular spot. Tail bronze and tipped in light gray. Photos and recording. ***Subsequent DNA analysis indicates that the mitochondrial DNA is from Costa's as the maternal parent. Sheri Williamson is now saying that paternal parent is either Broad-billed or Violet-crowned.
