Media notes
At 05:15. Bird not seen. It was in a tree some 80 m away, as estimated by triangulation. This bird is accompanied by other species throughout the cut. For an unadulterated sample of DAPE dawnsong, see ML408372221, in eBird S101189835.
Observation details
(Note added 7/9/23: second bird detected dawnsinging in background of recording.) Second recordings of dawnong of this species. (First was 3 km north yesterday morning.) But dawnsong followed a bout of singing with Feear only. Bird not seen in dim predawn light. Distance 80 m, as estimated by triangulation. Identified by great similarity to dawnsong of C. fumigatus (and C. pertinax minor) and because of match with Stiles and Skutch transliteration "Fredrick-Feear." Furthermore, both the Pip and Feear notes are essentially identical to calls given in daytime by seen Dark Pewees in this locality. Finally, the Fredrick phrase is characteristic of Contopus, being found not only in fumigatus and pertinax, but also in the more distantly related virens, sordidulus, and cinereus
