Observation details
One hen had a bit more white around the base of the bill compared to the other hens. I focused on this bird…. The head is rounder in some views and blockier in others. The Lesser’s head seen from behind looks like someone squeezed the sides inwards …. The hen, with the rounder head and more white at the base of the bill, the squeeze wasn’t as apparent. This gives the one hen, the Lesser, a puffy cheekier face. The Lesser’s posture was taller, perhaps because the top of the head was pointier in the back. The bill size was difficult to see from a distance… On the first picture the bill appears wider on the face on the bird on the left, the Greater. The Greater looks stouter, not as tall as the Lesser. On the second picture you can see the head squeezed in on the sides, and not so much on the other bird. This gives a cheekier, fuller look on the face. The head of the bird with more white on the face has a blockier looking head from this angle too. The middle bird has a blockier shaped head here.
