Observation details
Previously reported bird. Refound around 5:30 by Michael McBrien at Cupsogue. Dashed over from Tiana Beach and was able to observe bird for a few minutes as it sat on the flat. Terns flew up for unknown reason and resettled once - second time ELTE took off SW toward Moriches Inlet and continued in that direction until it was not visible. Long, thin, slightly drooping orange beak observed, as well as extensive black crown with smaller white forehead area. A bit larger than COTE (distinctly taller on ground) but easy to lose in flock in flight. Paler overall. Distant flight shots obtained.
