Observation details
A mid sized dark goose with a mostly white head. The belly, chest and neck are darker then the back. Back brown with more blue/gray tones then the rest of the body. Rump and tail pale. The head is primarily white but has a triangular brown check patch. Bill pale with pink distal half and a large white nail. Bill also had a thin black "grin patch". Bill is thicker and shorter then that of a greater white-fronted goose. Based on comparisons of photos of captive raised emperor goose x GWFG hybrids that I found online and 2 other observations I made of emperor goose X GWFG hybrids a few years prior to seeing this bird, this bird shows stronger emperor goose plumage and bill shape/color. Based on this I think this could be a F2 hybrid (i.e. 75% emperor goose 25% GWFG).
