Observation details
Photos of female-type bird on lawn with White-crowned Sparrows and robins, about the same size as WCSP. I initially left this bird unidentified as a Cassin's/Purple Finch, but I re-examined my photos in Nov 2016 and the crisp ventral streaking on a bright white background is clearly against a californicus Purple Finch and I think the bird must be either a Cassin's or a nominate eastern Purple Finch, which I would expect to be much less likely. The streaky (not solid) malar stripe and the prominent broken white eye ring on this bird are features that favor Cassin's per Zimmer 2000.
