Observation details
Male junco, foraging around the research station. First noticed the gray flanks of this bird without binoculars, and my initial thought was slate-colored. Then with binoculars I noticed the black head contrasted noticeably with the brownish-gray back, and the flanks were a paler gray than the bib. The white breast had a concave shape where it met the black bib, similar in shape to an oregon and dissimilar to a slate-colored (where I think of the white breast as having a convex shape defined by the bib and flanks). Some very poor photos attached.
