Observation details

Continuing. Seen west of the bridge and eventually drifted under and afforded wonderful views and photo opportunities starting at approximately 1:30pm. Approximately the same size as the female-type Black Scoter also present (slightly larger than the Surf Scoter present). Overall inky black with some silvery underwing linings. Bill mostly black with prominent knobby protuberances on either side near where the base of the upper mandible meets the bill. Striking orange coloration confined to uppermandible surface, excluding the knob (black). The inside of the mouth was also orange. Dark legs. Dark eyes accented by what (at times) appeared to be a thin dark cinnamon colored orbital ring.. Steep forehead with rounded crown.
