Observation details
Calls from a pair perched at top of tall trees on southern side of Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary. Pair were previously hunting over eastern end of lake, attempting to catch a Pied-billed Grebe when it surfaced. After ten minutes of coordinated circling low over lake and diving to catch the Grebe, the Grebe dived each time to successfully elude capture. Not catching the Grebe, the pair flew to nearby trees, perched and called as heard in this recording. Recorded on an partially cloudy afternoon, temperatures about 3 C, with 6 centimeters of snow and a partially frozen lake.
