Observation details
We saw seven murres, all as singles; of these I saw four birds well on the water, with three having mostly white heads apart from the black spur extending back from the eye, but the fourth bird has a mostly dark head with a contrasting white throat. I nevertheless noted that this bird was a dull grayish to dark brown rather than black above, that it showed some white on the auriculars, that the demarcation of dark and white on the breast did not form a short point, and that the bill was relatively slim and without a curved culmen. I saw a fifth bird only in flight when it flew by, but it was also mostly white-headed, and a sixth bird was seen poorly on the water when we passed by. I missed the seventh bird altogether.
