Doubled pip-ip calls throughout the recording. Loud creek in the background. Low-cut filter, trimmed and normalized.
Observation details
Mostly heard only, though briefly seen in silhouette flying away from me, after which the vocalizations stopped. My visual impressions are useless, except that the size and shape were not inconsistent with Greater Pewee. Vocalizations included several "pip" and "pip-pip" calls, and a couple of loud, clear, upslurred whistles along the lines of the "Maria" part of the "Jose-Maria" song phrase. [Correction after listening to the recording: it did sing "Jo-se-ma-ree", but as a continuous phrase rather than distinct syllables.] This bird was first found in fall 2017, making this the 5th year it has returned to this spot.
