Observation details
All dark bill smaller and not as spatulate as those of nearby NOSH. Decidedly smaller than nearby NOSH. Dark line through eye, though not a strong one. White arcs above and below eye. White area at base of bill. White area in throat. Overall brown plumage of upper parts with darker marks internal to feathers, paler toward the rear and undertail but without the buff mark of GWTE. Lower belly white. Of the legs and feet, only the upper portion of the legs was observed (when bird was standing on submerged rock). These were orange in color. Associating with a group of about 20 NOSH. When a helicopter flushed the birds, I managed to get flight photos that showed the broad blue covert patch on the leading portion of the inner wing along with smaller body and bill size in comparison to a NOSH. Cinnamon Teal would be the other possibility, but the bill appeared smaller than what I expect on CITE. The observation was at too great a distance to assess face pattern.
