Observation details
First-winter drake found earlier in the afternoon by Duncan B. Rather skulking on southern side and skittish too (flew to other end of pit several times) but eventually showed OK in south-east corner for a short while. Loosely associating with tufties and successfully catching fish. Sexed by white feathers moulting through on flanks and upperparts, as well as various other male features (i.e. vertical line on fore flank). Very pleased to finally catch up with this species in Surrey (#228 for the vice-county).
