Observation details
Twitching the Grey Phalarope found today by Mick Jerram and Gus Daly. Non-breeding Phalarope with short, stout bill, obvious phalarope mark, and diagnostic yellow base to bill (visible in photos). Our notes from email sent to NT Birds yahoo group: The Grey Phalarope was easily observed up until the end of today (21 January 2014) at the Leanyer Sewage Ponds. It was regularly moving between two locations: (1) swimming and feeding along the wall on the eastern side of the central N-S bund (bund 3 in Niven and James’ book), and (2) The overflow on the southern end of bund 9. It allowed relatively close approach. When we left, it was roosting on the southern end of bund 9. From our flight photos, it has both feet, although it was limping on its right leg.
