Media notes
Right next to the main road, tried to mitigate noise with bandpass filter; one kiskadee as well.
Observation details
Continuing bird first found on 10 Nov by Nathan Pieplow; appearance similar to GKIS but with faded black mask, comically short bill, and generally smaller build. Quite vocal when seen and when behind cover. Call a very raspy and drawn-out squeak that somewhat sounds like a kiskadee's rendition of a northern flicker call -- high, harrowing, but coarse and precariously diminutive. First seen by myself at 0815 along one of the trails cutting between the resaca at these coordinates (25.894018, -97.488521), when it flew in with a couple of calling COKI. I took a few photos and it then flew back to the southwest across University Blvd. It called a few times in passing, eventually settling down at 0843 for a few minutes at this location (25.893095, -97.488414) where many observers were then able to get photos. I have one bad recording with traffic noise, will see about adding/quality.
