Observation details
Both Eared and Horned Grebes were present in their winter plumage. Because both have the same basic feather and eye coloring, I compared head and neck size as well as crown shape to determine species. The Horned Grebes had a thicker neck and slightly larger head with a rounded crown while the Eared Grebes had a slightly smaller head with a somewhat peaked crown. Although the bill on the Eared Grebes appeared thinner, I did not use the bill as a determining factor because I could not tell much of a difference. I have attached pictures to help specied verification.
