Velvet-fronted Grackles calling (and singing?) in the small-leafed bamboo at the road edge near the bridge in Chuchini. Background includes: Cobalt-rumped Parrotlets, Greater Ani, Rufous-tailed Jacamar, Plain Softtail, Purple-throated Euphonia, Blue-throated Piping-Guan. Recorded using a Fostex FR-2LE with a Sennheiser ME62 & Telinga Universal 22" parabola.
Observation details
We watched at least 20 birds, in groups of 3-6, moving through bamboo, flowering shrubs, et al., usually within 10-12 feet of the ground. We recorded their vocalizations, photographed them, saw their nests, and saw one (presumed) young one being fed by an adult as they moved through. In the attached recordings are various vocalizations, at least one of which is more musical and may represent a song (though it bears no resemblance to the song of Venezuelan birds, which are likely a distinct species from these Bolivian birds).
