Media notes
Four grackles are foraging and interacting in the small-leafed bamboo along the edge of the road near the bridge at the entrance to Chuchini Ecological Reserve. They are calling and sometimes doing what could be song. This is near a grackle nest that one bird approached but turned away from. Background includes: Dull-capped Attila, Rufous-tailed Jacamar, Plain Softtail, Gray-fronted Dove, Crested Oropendola, & Undulated Tinamou. Recorded using a Fostex FR-2LE with a Sennheiser ME62 & Telinga Universal 22" parabola.
Observation details
We watched at least 20 birds, in groups of 3-6, moving through bamboo, flowering shrubs, et al., usually within 10-12 feet of the ground. We recorded their vocalizations, photographed them, saw their nests, and saw one (presumed) young one being fed by an adult as they moved through. In the attached recordings are various vocalizations, at least one of which is more musical and may represent a song (though it bears no resemblance to the song of Venezuelan birds, which are likely a distinct species from these Bolivian birds).
