Observation details
**Very rare—2nd Alachua county record? (1st record was on Newnans Lake following Tropical Storm Fay on 22 Aug 2008). Phalarope observed at central part of lake, lazily doing typical Phalarope twirl as it floated on water surface. Larger/thicker bill than Wilson’s or Red-necked Phalarope. Spotted/ID’d by Andy Kratter, who was part of one of two Melrose CBC boat crew surveying the lake along with our group of five. Debbie Segal alerted our boat team (we were nearby on the water) and we quickly boated over to their location. The Phalarope, which was notably solo and not part of any flock of other water/sea/aquatic birds, didn’t seem to mind our presence. Thanks Andy and thanks Debbie! Thanks also to our boat captains for generously volunteering their boat and their time for the Melrose CBC effort. We took extensive photos and video of the Phalarope
