Observation details
**Vagrant. Dead bird, very recently deceased judging by bright, intact plumage and legs, found near platform and photographed by Candyce Plante. Photo used by permission. Seen alive but in poor condition by unidentified photographer in late November, and presumed dead. Photo shared on Birding Eastern Mass Facebook page December 13, 2021. L. Griscom (1959) published two records, 1902 and 1946, both at GM in Concord. R.K. Walton (1984) has four records, all at GM in Concord: 9/7-13/80 (Barton), 9/17/81 (Prybis, Gove, Cutler), 10/24/82 (Rubinstein), and 7/31/83 (Billings). eBird for Great Meadows--Concord Unit lists three records: 8/12/64 (Stymeist), 7/18/80 (Dodder), and two separate sightings that Fall (same bird as reported by Walton), 9/8 and 9/12/80 (Oliver and Stymeist, respectively). Bird lacks a frontal shield and retains some juvenile pale to dark brown plumage in throat and on head, molting to green through nape to back of crown. Beak pink at base with white tip. Effectively in "first Spring" plumage. Collected December 9, 2021 for donation to Harvard MCZ.
