Observation details
One heard singing as soon as we got out of the car nearly causing ACL to implode. We went in after them into forest that burned for the first time in the previous El Niño cycle but couldn’t play them into anywhere that we could easily see them. Changing tactics we waited for them to calm down and then sat down and waited until they resumed their daily business. Myrmornis daily business turns out to be throwing leaves up into the air like some forest Turnstone, as Nárgila noted “like someone throwing clothes out of a suitcase’. Both members of the pair foraged together, often within a few centimeters. So cryptic and so hard to catch site of even when you could see leaves flying in all directions. A massive unblocking moment for ACL who had last heard this species 12 years beforehand. Totally brilliant beasts.
