Observation details
Found here earlier by John Groskopf. Resting among large Sandwich and Royal Tern flock on beach by guard shack at (27.3134755, -82.5799377). Intermediate in size between surrounding Sandwich and Royal Terns. Bright orange bill becoming yellow-orange at tip; not the most long-billed individual though. Extensively black head with longer/shaggier crest than Sandwich. Very faint hint of pinkish wash on body plumage. Rare but somewhat regular vagrant to Florida’s Gulf Coast; possibly all represented by the same individual. Compared to ‘Cayenne’ Sandwich Tern which is reported with some regularity in this region; this bird’s bill was thicker and clean orange, versus dull orange-yellow with black nares and thinner shape.
