Observation details
Probably continuing; immature. Very close observation of front and back allowed me to note the white base of the tail feathers, very dark and unbroken chest, stomach, back, and wings, as well as the golden tips to his head feathers. Larger by far than the red tail or harrier that flew by him. Sitting in a tree on the back of my property watching the field. It allowed me to walk right up to it and take pictures until my camera battery died; my fault for thinking I wouldn’t need a full charge for a walk around the backyard. Didn’t mind my presence and barely looked at me. Flew off as I was heading back to the house to get a fresh battery, to the northwest again; based on the blue jays’ calls, it didn’t go far. Likely hunting the clueless farm-raised ring-necked pheasants wandering the game preserve fields around my property. Photos to follow tonight.
