Details This group of birds was first identified as Greater Scaup. Don Roberson consulted Bruce Deuel, a noted expert on waterfowl and received the following :I agree the head shape looks more Lesser. The bill size seems kinda large, but on Greaters it looks even larger. I can't see the nails very well, but I'd expect the black to spread further to the side of the nail than I'm seeing. The real clincher to me is the wing stripe. Here's a good picture of a Greater wing stripe https://ebird.org/checklist/S97200152, and here's some of Lessers. The stripe on Greaters is bright white clear out onto the primaries, but on Lessers the bright white stops at the end of the secondaries with the primaries still appearing so pale they almost look white. So I think these are Lessers. Cheers,
