Observation details
An immature bird with dusky gray wash on neck, mostly pink bill with black base and nail; otherwise a mostly white to grayish-white bird. The black narrowly framed the base of the bill, and the eye was separated from the base of the bill by dull grayish-yellow lores. The tail was short and rounded. This swan was not much larger than the adjacent Canada Geese. This bird was asleep most of the time, and the legs and feet were not seen. It was with a flock of Canada Geese, all seemingly tucked in for the evening. Mute Swan is eliminated by the short, rounded tail versus long and pointed on Mute, and the lack of black lores and both bill and body shape. Trumpeter Swan would probably show more black at base of bill and be larger. Apparently this bird was first seen 24 November.
