Observation details
Originally found by Jim Pike 11/11/2000, this bird stayed until the end of March 2001, and many photos taken ad recordings made of its distinct vocalizations. I first saw it on this day shortly after arriving at 9:00 am and then again at 11:25 am, then again at about 1 pm. It was first seen at the entrance to the willow area, then flew across the path just before the concrete Y in the path, and again near the Harris's Sparrow spot. While I was watching it, it captured and ate a black tenebrionid beetle, showing its bright orange mouth lining. Looked like a cross between a Dusky-capped and Ash-throated FC, and with a pale-based bill like a Great-crested Flycatcher. See sketch for other notes.
