Observation details
Bird reported several days ago. Large Whimbrel with very obvious supercilium and pale face. Some buff on flanks, Brown rump. I was standing beside Merlyn when she took photos of it as it flew from mangroves. Merlyn's photos show buff armpits compared to grey side, can be made available if required. I took lots of photos, but didn't get any of the underwing ones. Lots of discussion on Australian Twitchers and consensus appears to be that the bird is a Hudsonian Whimbrel. I'll submit this observation on the basis of the many expert opinions on the numerous observations and photos by some very astute birders.
