Observation details
Well!! I was heading back from the North End when I suddenly realised that the thin, shrill call I could hear was not a Miner; there, right in front of me, was a very young juvenile Butcherbird with one of its parents, and skewered on a branch in front of them was the long, black leg of what looked to be a young Magpie, complete with downy grey fluff around the legs top!!! I've often heard, of course, of the legendary meathooks of the Butcherbirds, but this was the first time I saw it for myself; the adult was very precisely tearing off portions of the drumstick... what's more another one was calling nearby, so that completed the family!!!
