Observation details
The Red Phalarope was in non breeding plumage foraging for food I the classic spinning surface feeding habit that stands out. The dark eye patch and two toned beak coupled with size and feeding technique were used in identification. Videos and multiple pictures were taken. The friend that alerted us of its presence said it had been in the same pond for a couple if days since a coastal storm went through. We observed the bird fly and return. It was not vocal during the time we observed it. It was not bothered our presence by the pond and swam as close as 15 yards from where we stood.
