Observation details
Coordinates: 46.17279, -69.26303. I acknowledge and humbly admit the difficulty of identifying Red Crossbills to type, especially when one doesn't really know what they're doing like myself. I do, however, have audio recordings of the birds and they sound like great matches for Type 10 (Sitka Spruce) birds to me, with Type 3 (Western Hemlock) a possible contender. They sound quite different from recordings of other types. As we encountered the species a few times over the next several days, they responded strongly to playback of Type 10 flight calls. Once I am home, I will add audio recordings to each checklist (where available) after I've been able to process the audio. I'll also look for experts I can share the recordings with and welcome any feedback from an eBird reviewer on who to contact.
