Media notes
Repeated low-pitch call, guck-guck-guck, over and over. Reminiscent of Mallard, and there were Mallard on the lake, but I could see the Brant's bill open each time I heard guck-guck-guck. Quiet but audible throughout the recording, visible on spectrogram between 1500 and 2000 Hz. Maybe easiest to hear between 41 and 58 seconds into the recording.
Observation details
Continuing. Small goose with dark head and small dark bill, white "collar" around neck above dark breast. Calling this a black Brant based on completeness of collar and dark belly (what I could see of it), as well as likelihood of different subspecies being seen in this area.
