Observation details
On arrival streamside ~ 6:25 AM, I heard the bird for ~ 20 secs making a loud call very similar to a CAKI. Later, seen poorly [very backlight & partially obscured] multiple times bouncing around in the understory of the tall streamside cottonwoods. Towards the end of the site visit, the bird landed right next to me making a NOFL call in a small hackberry tree & I couldn't see it. Just before we left I heard distant singing 2-3x. Groves here: I recorded the bird early on making 2 different call types--one a sort of whistle and one a sort of imitation of Cassin's Kingbird. I observer the bird at this time jumping up repeatedly to grab the last of the Russian Olives up high. Clear view. Recording attached.
