Observation details
**State Lifer** Arrived at ~3, bird was being viewed by the Martins and Mark Greene. According to airport personnel, bird has been here at least the last week. Bird viewed as far as 500 yards away and as close as 75 yards. Almost all of viewing was in excellent light. This is the 4th fall record for MO, and 3rd eastern MO record (according to Robbins, 2020). No mistaking this bird. - Big buffy/cinnamon colored bird, with long bill, almost as long as body is wide and strongly downcurved. Flesh colored on lower part of bill, darker toward tip. - Upperparts mottled brown/white, underparts buffy/cinnamon in color - Gray/blue legs. - Moved around mostly continuously feeding. Observed eating grasshoppers and what appears to be a crayfish. - Bird did not seem nervous by our presence, as it fed from ~400 yards out, worked its way to within about 75 yards of us and fed past us. -At about 4:10, bird was standing on runway and began calling, at times looking straight up in sky. Mark commented that he wondered if it was getting ready to fly. Sure enough, the bird continued to call, and then took off, flying west, and then completely out of view at 4:19. Stayed a short while later, but bird never returned. Recording below was made as bird took off. - Cinnamon underwing obvious in flight.
