Observation details
First Florida record; photographed by the homeowner, who contacted me (through Ron Smith, I think). Val and I drove down to the Schmidt residence -- a home and yard to die for -- and took many photos and videos of the quail. It was very intricately plumaged, with a grayish-brown back, rufous upper flanks with bold white streaks, and a gray rump and tail. The head was mostly rufous with a brownish-black "topknot" and a whitish supercilium and malar stripes. The hindneck and breast were gray with black scaling, and the belly was buffy with black scaling and a large brown patch in the center. One of my videos has vocalizations. Quite a cool bird!
