Observation details
Slightly smaller than a nearby reddish egret, white belly, rusty patch on neck under the chin, blue/grey body, dark red almost maroon feathers on top of head and neck, subtle white stripe down neck. Dark upper mandible, orange lower mandible. Wading around in saltmarsh during a receding tide, seemed to be chasing two willets that wandered near it while feeding.
