Media notes
Shot with Canon EOS 7D and Leitz 400/6.8 Telyt-R. White balance was 5200K. I intentionally overexposed the image in the field to ensure I captured as much detail as possible on the bird, which was back-lit against a background of white gravel. I corrected the exposure, cropped the image, and converted the file from CR2 to JPEG in Adobe Lightroom 4; the photo is otherwise as-shot. Please note that copyright actually belongs to the photographer, Kendrick Fowler, and not Florida Keys Hawkwatch (though Florida Keys Hawkwatch is free to use the file for non-commercial purposes, and is the entity you should contact with any questions about the photo).
Observation details
One of the mourning doves we spotted had an unusual plumage: it had a dark cinnamon head, the underparts were yellow-brown, and the light blue eye ring appeared much thicker and bolder than usual. The wings, back, and tail appeared more or less normal (though the left wing was missing a substantial number of feathers).
