Media notes
Strongly contrasting "braces" on upperparts seen well in this photo.
Observation details
Fairly bright bird and very confiding as it patiently fed on spartina seed heads. I believe this looks good for A.n. alterus. Bright orange-buff across chest and running down to flanks cleanly contrasting with pale belly and matching buff-tones on malar and throat. Streaking on underparts mostly contained within bib and running down along flanks. Streaking seems to be intermediate between nelsoni and subvirgatus. Not as crisp as seen in nominate race but not quite as broad and blurry as seen in many subvirgatus. Pale gray white-tipped braces running along scaps strongly contrasting with upperparts and blending into clean gray nape. Wide, gray median crown stripe contrasting with brown lateral crown stripes with most dark stippling limited to the lat crown stripes.
