Parasitic Jaeger (non-diagnostic shot), Philomath Sewage Ponds, Benton Co., OR - Oct 26, 2016
Observation details
Flyover light-morph adult in breeding plumage; followed the Cal. Gull that's been circling the ponds the entire time and flew from east to west; slightly smaller and more elegant than CAGU, clearly a light-morph jaeger, dark brownish above, creamy-white below, with distinct, dark cap, long, pointed tail streamers (not spatula-shaped as in Pom, but too short for adult Long-tailed), slight dark smudging on side of breast, pale panel on the primaries. Not as bulky as a Pomarine, shape, flight stile and amount of white in wing rules out Long-tailed.
