Observation details
**Rare. Two small flycatchers with constantly cocked tails in the spruce trees along the roadside. These were associating with the flock of parids and other passerines that enabled us to locate the Ural Owl. The flycatchers were constantly chasing each other, calling. The calls were harsher and faster than Narcissus, and quite loud. I managed to get a couple marginal photos of one bird, showing white rectices and the posture. I'm not familiar with this species. I am identifying them as Taiga based upon the posture, tail pattern, and calls. The calls could have been harsher than normal due to the presence of the owl. I did not observe red on the throat of either bird, but they were moving quickly through dense growth and were always backlit. I do not see wingbars or any coloration (red, blue) that would make me think they are a more common species.
