NOTES: BETWEEN OUR CAMP AT MID-DENHAM BAY AND THE HIGH-DENSITY PORTION FO THE COLONY AT THE NW BEACH A LARGE GROUP OR TWO OF LARGELY 'UNEMPLOYED' BIRDS GENERALLY CONGREGATED. BEHIND THEM WERE NESTING GROUPS. AS WE WALKED PAST THEY WOULD MAKE A 'PANIC FLIGHT' (TERMED BY ASHMOLE 'IBIS' SEPT. 1963) TOWARD AND OVER THE SEA WHERE THEY APPARENTLY FELT MORE SECURE THAN ON THE BEACH IN OUR PRESENCE. THIS CUT ILLUSTRATES THE GENERAL COLONY CONVERSATION ('WIDE-AH WIDE-AH'); ALARM NOTES AS WE APPROACH; THEN TH. Other Behaviors: Establish Flock Contact, Emit Alarm, Social Context: Colony. Habitat: Bay/Harbor.
