Observation details
Mixed in the tern flock, a bit closer than last week. Sleeping on the spit mostly, extensive well defined black cap on neck extending to the top of the crown and onto face, forehead white. White eye crescents visible at high power through scope. Substantially darker grey and smaller than surrounding Caspian terns. Primaries mostly black but with some small white apical spots. Raised its head a couple times, bill shorter and less decurved than Laughing. (Nick-- I never saw this bird raise its head, but the extent of black in the hood looks good for FRGU. The amount of white in the wingtips would place it as a first cycle. Esme and Garret did see the raise head/bill and agreed it was better proportionately for FRGU. Sadly nobody was able to document it with its head up.)
