Male. Remarks: On a cold December morning which initially had very low bird activity we birded along scrubby high altitude slopes between Lungthung and Gnathang, East Sikkim. As the day progressed and the fog lifted we found ourselves in areas which promised better birding. These hills were mostly covered in sub-alpine grass and scrub and some dwarf rhododendron and silver fir. There were Hen Harriers, Himalayan Buzzards and a Steppe Eagle overhead and Foxes and Yellow-throated Martens on ground. But by far the most numerous were these dazzling little birds busily foraging on the slopes, keeping us busy and entertained. - AS. Date added to OBI: August 08, 2014.
