Observation details

First Florida record! Found four days earlier by Andy Bankert and Bruce Anderson, and photographed later that day. This day, Alex and I rediscovered the bird, which all others were able to view leisurely for more than an hour. At one point, while I was sitting on the ground, the solitaire flew to within a few feet of me, picked up an insect from the grass, then returned to its perch. I got many photographs and some videos. Andy, Bruce, and I authored a paper: "First record of Townsend's Solitaire (Myadestes townsendi) for Florida" (Florida Field Naturalist 37:16-21, 2009).
