Observation details
tentative ID (not mapped for here by Borrow and Demey--an oversight?), but photos and audio recordings of song obtained; a very large Acrocephalus, long and long-tailed with a very long bill. Significantly larger than Sedge Warblers in direct comparison and approaching Great Reed-Warbler in size, but not that large or thick-billed and somewhat more rusty in coloration above. The rusty color was duller than Eurasian Reed Warbler however. Song was a series of slowly delivered chack-chack-chack calls, and then various other tripled phrases, sort of recalling a harsh Yellow-breasted Chat without the whistled notes. Hopefully the photos and audio confirm the ID. At least three territories with singing birds (suggesting local territorial breeding) including one short-tailed juv photographed by Chris.
