Observation details
YouTube video link: https://youtu.be/_upGMplL8IA YouTube video link (mainly for the call): https://youtu.be/nG9AciWTQ0w Continuing bird seen with Derek Hameister at his GPS coordinates. The bird was seen flying from snag to snag along the edge of the lake. It was also very vocal making “whit” calls. Each time it made a call, I would see it’s tail flick upwards while also shaking its wings. This empid was smaller than the nearby willow flycatcher, with a bold white eye ring and a rounded gray head with a pretty steep forehead. The bill seemed small and was mostly black with a bit of orange pink at the base. The throat seemed white and contrasted with both the darker head and belly. Both white wingbars were both bold on this bird and the tail seemed a little bit shorter in comparison to the willow flycatcher nearby. 10-01-21 additional comments: After re-reading my original description, I can see how someone might think of a hammond's flycatcher, so I wanted to add additional info as to why this isn't a HAFL. 1) The primary projections on this bird was of medium length rather than the long primaries of a hammonds's. What I mean is that the length of the primary projections for this bird is only about 1.5 times the width of the two wingbars compared to a hammond's which seems to be twice or more times the width 2) Although the bill was small, it was wide which is different than the thin narrow bill of hammond's 3) The contrasting white throat is much more pronounced in this bird than it would be in a hammond's 4) This bird had a high wing panel contrast which is something you don't see in a hammond's flycatcher 5) The call of this bird were whit calls rather than pips of hammond's I understand that my photos are pretty bad, but since one was taken from my YouTube video, you can watch that video and watch the bird calling.
