Observation details
Seventh attempt! Small American Wood Warbler like a miniature, short-tailed, lead gray version of an Orange-crowned Warbler. Plain face with a large black eye. No Wing bars or patterns anywhere on the bird. Sharp, pointed black bill. Interestingly, I did not notice the chestnut rump, yet it is quite visible on my photographs. To me the bird did not sound like the recordings on the Sibley app. Instead, it sounded more like an Orange-crowned Warbler (the Lucy's Warbler can be heard giving a single, wet "Tsip!" at 4 seconds into the recording). There were no Orange crowned Warblers around at the time the bird was calling. The bird arrived at 7:05 a.m. at its allegedly favorite pepper tree at the North end of the stand of trees in the middle of the meadow at 34.098380,-118.261760 This particular species of pepper tree is unfamiliar to me, as it is neither the usual Brazilian or Peruvian pepper tree. The peppercorns of this tree are more of a light purple or purple reddish color.
