Observation details
Adult bird with the species' distinctive white front to the face giving it it's "skeleton/reptilian like" appearance. Feeding on mistletoe flowers on a Black Wattle along Monkey Bear Track at -38.019613,147.508857 (as per Google maps). Was weakly harassed a few times by a New Holland HE and a Little Wattlebird but returned to feeding shortly after. Was viewed from less than 10m, photographed and filmed. This record is approximately 210 kms from the nearest White- fronted HE records near Glenn Waverley in 2020 and approxinately 220 kms from a 2020 record near Albury. Vegetation type is listed as Damp Sands Herb-rich Woodland adjacent the Gippsland Lakes and is currently very heathy due to recovery from previous disturbances. A couple of muddy ruts on the tracks to the site might require 4x4 to access. Quite a surprising find indeed and a long way from its usual range centred on the more arid parts of the continent and in Victoria, the mallee areas of the north west!!
