Observation details
NDP guided me to this spot and the birds by phone--the canal slightly south of the RGNC. Two birds were present in late afternoon, where they (and others?) had been reported by numerous birders earlier in the day. These were very small swifts with light grayish undersides and somewhat pale rumps/tails. Compared to Chimney Swifts, they flew lower to the ground, navigating around trees and other obstacles, and they appear to soar less and flap their wings more. No Chimney Swifts were reported at this or other locations in Bernalillo County in this season. I obtained poor flight photos of these fast-moving birds.
