Observation details
Found and identified by Curtis Marantz after hearing its call notes; the bird called again several times in response to limited playback, and we had a brief but unobstructed view of the bird at close range as it emerged from the undergrowth; this warbler had olive green upperparts, no wing bars, yellow underparts, a black “mask” that extended from the lores down the side of the throat ending in an angular point, and a yellow supercilium that contrasted with a darker crown; face was mostly black unlike a Hooded Warbler which would have had a yellow face and a distinctly black “hooded” appearance; co-occurring Common Yellowthroat male would have a white border to black mask and yellow restricted to throat and breast; no photos.
